Grand Canyon Backpacking: Day 2

Read yesterday’s entry

I can’t believe I waited so long to do this trip. Dad’s having the best time. The creek has water, our guide filters it, and everyone in the group takes a drink. Today we’re going the rest of the way down to the Colorado, about five miles, where we will camp at Granite Rapids.

This is one of the bigger rapids on the Colorado—not the biggest, but close. The rating varies, but it’s usually around a 7 or 8. If you’re a rafting enthusiast you already know this, but the Colorado is so big and varied that it has its own scale. While we’re at camp we see some river trips come through, and they look like they’re having a blast.

Meals are much better than I expected. The guide has promised to share recipes with me so I don’t have to rely on MREs as much on my future trips.
