Here Are A Few Things to Keep in Mind While Camping at Havasu Falls

Consider this: A sky full of stars above you, the whisper of the tranquil Havasupai Creek in the distance, and ancient America all around you. If this sounds like a great way to spend your next holiday, you should consider a Havasu Falls camping trip as soon as possible.

Why consider camping at Havasu Falls?

The best possible reason is that it is a magical experience. While outdoor camping at Havasu Falls is always picturesque, it is the surrounding land that adds so much more. Consider the Havasu Creek, as it streams through your campground, while cottonwood and elm trees offer you shade and limestone cliffs tower above the Grand Canyon. It’s as if you have been transported back in time. It is important to note, however, that camping at the Havasupai Campground requires you to make an appointment, so speak to a professional well before setting out.

The best time to go

Honestly, any time of the year is great because you get pros and cons in every season. If you visit in early spring, you get fewer hikers as well as fewer bugs but it is not a great time to go swimming. Late spring to early summer will yield the best temperatures but will also have the most hikers. Summertime or early fall is also great outdoors but coincides with monsoon season in the Canyon which means you may have to deal with flash floods between mid-June and late September.

Things to keep in mind

If you are planning a Havasu Falls camping trip, the area allocated is approximately a mile long and sits between Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls. There are campsites on both sides of the river with several footbridges. This is a remarkably tidy area, but there are no showers and campfires are not permitted in the Havasu Falls camping area. Make sure you Leave No Trace so the falls are kept clean. March through October is usually hectic, and holiday weekends can be overwhelming so plan your trip accordingly.
