How to Spend One Day at the Grand Canyon

Are you strapped for time while passing through the Grand Canyon but still want to do your best to see some of the sights it has to offer? Although you might not be able to hike it from rim to rim, going on a Grand Canyon adventure trip can still provide a day packed with fun and excitement.

The Grand Canyon hiking tour at Discovery Treks is a great way to experience the area for a day, so we’ve broken it down below to give you a clearer idea of what to expect.

A Hike Around the Rim

When you embark upon one of the adventure tours with Discovery Treks, you’ll begin your day hike from the South Rim with one of our trained guides. All of the tour guides we employ have been through and completed their Wilderness First Responder Certification, meaning you’ll be provided with the utmost safety and trail expertise, as well as additional insight about the flora and fauna along the trail. Each hike lasts approximately 2-3 hours and originates from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. However, there are day tours from Phoenix and Scottsdale as well.

Necessary Hiking Equipment for Day Hikes

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is what type of hiking or backpacking equipment do guests need to bring on their Grand Canyon adventure. When hiking the Grand Canyon, having close-toed shoes or hiking boots is essential to help prevent injuries. Bringing along a hat and sunscreen is also recommended, as the heat and sun can harsh at times without the proper protection. Also, be sure to bring a day’s worth of water (2-3 liters).

Since you’ll need to be comfortable during your day hike, wear pants that are accommodating (avoid jeans) and bring a backpack to store any water or snacks you bring along. Those looking for additional support during their hike can rent trekking poles from the General Store at Market Plaza.
