Times to travel Pros/Cons:
May – June Spring in Yosemite is a spectacular time to visit, with waterfalls at peak flow, blooming wildflowers, and generally comfortable temperatures for hiking. Trails are mostly snow-free by late May, making it ideal for both day hikes and multi-day backpacking adventures like our Half Dome tour. Popular trails can get busy, and higher elevations may still have lingering snow, which can make planning tricky. With Discovery Treks, you don’t have to worry about logistics—our expert guides handle permits, gear, and route planning so you can focus on enjoying the scenery and experiencing Yosemite’s spring beauty safely.
July – August Summer offers long daylight hours, fully open trails, and reliably warm weather, perfect for multi-day treks and exploring Yosemite’s high country. This is prime season for guided adventures, including Half Dome backpacking tours and extended wilderness hikes. The downside is that temperatures can exceed 90–100°F in the valley, and popular trails can be crowded. Discovery Treks guides make your summer experience safer and more enjoyable by managing pacing, hydration, and timing to avoid heat risks, while also showing you hidden spots away from the crowds.
September – October Fall is an excellent time to visit Yosemite, with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and stunning autumn colors throughout the park. Trails remain accessible, and the quieter season makes for a more peaceful wilderness experience. By October, however, some higher elevation trails and campgrounds begin to close, and shorter daylight hours can limit long hikes. Discovery Treks ensures your fall adventure is smooth and memorable, with expert guidance on seasonal trail conditions, safe planning, and insider knowledge on the best viewpoints, wildlife, and photo opportunities.
